The truth about doodle coats
Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, Bernedoodles and their cousins mix a poodle's curly, ever-growing hair with a retriever's shedding undercoat, which means the shed hair doesn't fall out, it stays trapped in the curls and felts into mats from the skin outward. A doodle can look perfectly fluffy on top while the coat underneath is one solid pelt. It's the most maintenance-intensive coat in the salon, and it's also our favorite: we groom doodles of every size, every single week.
The schedule that keeps doodles fluffy
Full groom every 6–8 weeks, real brushing at home in between (line-brushing to the skin with a slicker, verified with a metal comb, the comb is the truth-teller), and a Neat & Tidy between full grooms if you love the shaggy look. Skip a cycle and you're usually choosing between hours of uncomfortable dematting or a short fresh start. We'll always choose your dog's comfort over saving the coat, and we'll show you exactly how to keep it from happening again.
