The short answer

We recommend all dogs be groomed regularly on a 4 to 6 week basis. In Florida, where dogs live in the water, the yard and the A/C year-round, staying on schedule matters more than in cooler climates, coats mat faster and skin problems show up sooner.

Curly & doodle coats, every 4 weeks

Poodles, doodles and bichon-type coats never stop growing and mat from the skin out. For curly coats and long styles we strongly recommend a 4 week schedule, plus real brushing at home (down to the skin, not just the top). Wait longer and you're often choosing between hours of dematting or a shave-down.

Drop coats and long styles, every 4 weeks

Shih Tzus, Maltese, Yorkies and Lhasas in longer styles do best on a strict 4 week schedule. If you prefer low-maintenance, ask for a shorter 'puppy cut' and you can stretch toward the 6 week end of the range.

Double and triple coats, every 4 weeks

Goldens, huskies, shepherds and Bernese don't need haircuts, but they do need regular baths, blow outs and de-shedding, especially during Florida's endless shedding season. For double and triple coated breeds we strongly recommend a 4 week bath-and-deshed cycle to keep the undercoat moving and your couch cleaner.

Short coats, bath as needed, nails always

Labs, pitties and other wash-and-wear dogs do well on a 4 to 6 week bath cycle, but nails don't wait: every 3–4 weeks. If you hear clicking on the tile, it's time, walk-in nail trims are quick, easy and need no appointment.
