The short answer

Most dogs do best on a 4–8 week grooming cycle. In Florida, where dogs live in the water, the yard and the A/C year-round, staying on schedule matters more than in cooler climates, coats mat faster and skin problems show up sooner.

Curly & doodle coats, every 6–8 weeks

Poodles, doodles and bichon-type coats never stop growing and mat from the skin out. A full groom every 6–8 weeks, plus real brushing at home (down to the skin, not just the top), keeps them comfortable. Wait longer and you're often choosing between hours of dematting or a shave-down.

Drop coats, every 4–6 weeks

Shih Tzus, Maltese, Yorkies and Lhasas in longer styles need grooming every 4–6 weeks. If you prefer low-maintenance, ask for a shorter 'puppy cut' and you can stretch it a bit further.

Double coats, every 8–12 weeks, bathe more often

Goldens, huskies and shepherds don't need haircuts, but they do need regular baths, blow outs and de-shedding, especially during Florida's endless shedding season. A bath-and-brush every 4–6 weeks keeps the undercoat moving and your couch cleaner.

Short coats, bath as needed, nails always

Labs, pitties and other wash-and-wear dogs can come in every 6–8 weeks for a bath, but nails don't wait: every 3–4 weeks. If you hear clicking on the tile, it's time, walk-in nail trims are quick, easy and need no appointment.
