Start earlier than you think

We recommend a first visit no later than 10 weeks old, once your vet gives the okay. Puppies are wide open to new experiences in their first few months, a gentle introduction now beats wrestling a nervous 60-pound doodle later.

What the first visit looks like

A warm bath, a gentle blow out, a nail trim and a light tidy on the face, feet and fanny, all of it subject to what your puppy will happily allow. Lots of breaks, treats and praise. If something stresses them, we stop. A great experience matters more than a perfect finish.

How to prepare at home

Handle their paws, ears and face daily. Run a brush over them while they relax. Let them hear a hair dryer from across the room. Sixty seconds a day of this makes the real thing feel familiar.

What to bring

Vaccination records (rabies where applicable), their favorite small treats, and a note about anything your breeder or vet flagged. Come with a pottied, lightly-exercised puppy and skip the big breakfast.

Building the habit
