Seniors need grooming more, not less

As dogs age, they self-groom less, skin gets thinner and drier, coats thin or over-thicken, and nails grow faster than worn-down. Meanwhile lumps, skin tags and sore spots multiply, and a groomer's hands find them early. Skipping grooming because a dog is old leaves them itchy, matted and uncomfortable exactly when comfort matters most.

Arthritis changes everything about handling

An arthritic dog cannot stand square for an hour or hold a leg up like they used to, and forcing it is painful. We adapt: supportive positioning, letting them sit or lie when possible, working in sections, and never over-extending stiff joints. Tell us where your dog is sore at drop-off and we will plan the groom around it.

Warm water, soft hands, extra breaks

Warm (not hot) water soothes stiff bodies, gentle massage during the bath doubles as comfort, and unhurried sessions with real breaks keep stress and fatigue down. Nails are a mobility issue now

Long nails tilt an old dog's posture backward and make slick floors treacherous, a genuinely dangerous combination with weak hips. Short nails every 3 to 4 weeks plus trimmed paw-pad fur for traction is one of the cheapest quality-of-life upgrades a senior can get. Walk-in nail trims make it easy to stay on top of.

Skin and coat, the senior edition

Thinner senior skin nicks and irritates more easily, so we choose gentler tools, softer brushes and milder products. Dry, flaky senior coats respond beautifully to conditioning treatments, and our Certified Canine Esthetician can build a skin plan around what aging skin actually needs.
